this is a picture of jacks nose. i noticed lumps yesterday morning and by tea time it was red sores so we took him to the vet and he got amoxcicillan. today its got worse and worse and as u can see its like big cuts and its bleeding alot so i took him back to the vet today and hes got steroids aswell now (as an anti inflammatory and immunosuppresant) but hes really not right and hes scratching it to bits and to be honest i dont think the vet really knows whats caused it.
Any ideas or advice the poor dog is tormented
there has been no diet change or anything new |

oh poor boy that looks painful. is it just on the top or is it all round the nose.
have you taken him anywhere new or changed to a different brand of cleaning stuff or detergents.
just trying to think if it could be an allergic reaction to something. _________________ microchiping and grooming www.chipnclip.co.uk

God that looks sore..........my first thought...........Hedgehog spines?
My fathers dog Tanya has a MUCH lesser version of this after she found a hedgehog in the garden............they are coming out of hibernation just now. _________________ John Thomson

maybe put some ice in a clean cloth and hold that on it - will maybe cool it and numb it a wee bit and give him some relief?
I don't know if that is a good idea - tho I can't see what harm it would do? Backup please? _________________ Dogs are the leaders of the planet.

maybe you need one of those headcollar / cone things to stop him scratching it? _________________ Dogs are the leaders of the planet.

my first instinct would be to give him an antihistamine. |

hes really not himself when i try and go near him he wants to kill me. any time hes been out hes been observed and my dad said he wasnt near anything unless my dad missed it. theres nothing we can think of that we have changed in the house. I said to the vet an autoimmune reaction and she agreed but we need to find out whats casuing it to keep him away from it. Its getting worse every few hours its quite scary and he wants to scratch it to bits. It came for nowehre in under 2 days! |

have you recently washed his bedding / towels in the last week? New detergent / air fresher or room spray / new cleaning product being used in the house? These things are FULL of chemicals.
poor boy - it looks so sore - i can understand how worried and upset you must be - that looks really painful. _________________ Dogs are the leaders of the planet.

that's not good Graeme. Did the vet give an anti histamine? Seems the most logical way to treat that initially. Especially if he's scratching because it's obviously itchy. |
