piddling puppy

Hi guys, well wee Heather the Westie pupo is here and is a wee cutie however one slight problem her toilet trainig seems non existent!!!!!!! It seems that my cousin who is new to the puppy rearing thing has been using the pee pads and is still using them. Heather is 17wks old and from what i can see has full bladder control but does not associate the toilet and outside!! I did my usual last night and this morning take them out right before bed then all in cages and up this morning and right outside for the loo, Heather in both cases did not go to the toilet even thought i stayed out with her for about 15 - 20 mins and Dora and Lizzy were back in the house. When we came in this morning she precedded to pee in the hall!!! So my question is how do i break this habit as I am looking after her for 3 weeks and would like to get her doing the loo outside and not on the carpet. I have put papers down and was thinking that if I can get her to pee on them I could then take them outside when we go out and see if she will go on them outside and just slowly take it from there? Anymore suggestions advice on this would be a great help.

Its a hard one to crack with some dogs. Star was great and by the time he was about 20 weeks he was fully trained, no bother Libby on the other hand was terrible and it took the best part of a year to train her! You would not believe it and we tried everything, read all the books, tried all the methods. Its harder for you because this is not your dog and you only have three weeks to try and crack it! The only thing I can suggest that worked with Star would be to try and catch her in the act then as soon as take her outside, Star soon got the message. I could never put paper down for him he just ate it

we were the same, Gypsy cot on dead quick. and we expected Inca to fallow her example but no, she isn't a year until September and its only been a few months since she really got the massage, she wasn't two bad but would still have Little accidents, like if you didn't get her out side as soon as you came in.

you could ask you friend what her routine is like to see if you can both work something out that her owner can do when she gets her back

woo hoo Heather peed outside after that big walk I crated her then at 10 took her out for 25mins and at the end of the walk in my garden she peed, a start I think!!!!!

The only thing I can suggest is to KEEP her outside till she pees so you can praise her and make a positive association with that. I always used a 'clean boy' (girl) a happy command after they had done it outside.only used when toilet training and only for toilet training.

I gave her tones of praise whilst doing it and cuddles and verbal praise when she went earlier, I'll get ther with her, she'll be house trained by the time my cousin gets back

we used a vocal command which has kinda stuck with Gypsy. we just tell her to go 'pee pee' if shes not ready for one she goes to her bed until we close the door (her choice we don't send her there) it funny

if she has now wee'd outside, it may be an idea to take her back there so she can find her scent from the last time, if this is not possible - use a cotton ball to soak up some wee and place in a bag, and the next time you take her out dab the soaked cotton wool ball on the grass (sorry sounds yuk but does work) - remember no pressure to wee and lots of praise when she has gone

"Do a pee pee" works for me.

We have a bit of grass just outside the back door and Otto goes there when he's first let out. And he'll now do it before he goes to bed even when he's not that keen to go out the door, he has sussed what he's supposed to do.

Sure the neighbours think I'm nuts.

Take a puppy pad outside and put it in the garden when you let her out if she don't move on from that.
I bet you she will be doing on the grass within a week. Its just a case of her moving from the pad to the grass an when you remove the pad after a week she will just use the grass instead. You can cut the pad down smaller and smaller too.
