Well it is that time again.........
Best advice is not to make a fuss if you hear a firework go off..carry on as normal if you can....DO NOT pet your dog if they get upset......this just re enforces that fireworks are a problem.
Murphy ignores them and diesel is fine if he can see them.......so I end up sitting on my front step for 2 hours on November the 5th watching fireworks with my dogs.
Best of luck everyone. _________________ John Thomson

Same here John!!!! We make NO fuss when they hear them and TRY to ignore the 3 salivating, slobbering, shaking, gibbering wrecks that our dogs become.
Fireworks kicked off here a few weeks ago, they're not every night and only a few at a time but still our lot are terrified.
It IS however LOADS easier if we are able to see where they are coming from as we entice the dogs outside with us and point them in the direction of the fireworks....so long as they SEE the colours befor they hear the bang and are up close to us they cope loads better but it's clear they still find it traumatic. _________________ Staffies are my life! i normally take the girls out into the garden and sit with them, if they are on a lead i can correct them if they bark but they weren't to bad last year, infact when i was out walking one night we stood and watched some that were going off on the pitch, the girls didnt bother. _________________ microchiping and grooming www.chipnclip.co.uk

Tara gets well scared, she will hide under my bed or somewhere, difficult when doors are open and she could run out. although i think she be fine, she come running inside if she hears one. _________________ Quoting Jack: you know me - a complete hopeless case & Sadly - and mark it in your diaries folks as you won't see this happen often - but <gulp> I HAVE to agree with Dave on this.

Ironically Dave my cats couldn't care less about them - they're just not usually too fazed at all, maybe Monty a little (but he's the worst scaredy cat I have EVER known ) George my other Persian is typical of the breed - big fat lump of a boy with an arrogance that is breathtaking - NOTHING bothers him...and Sam, my Moggy, well he's a little ruffian - in his youth he was always fighting now....he just lazes around chilling _________________ Staffies are my life! Bubbles was fine last year until a really big one went off just above her head and the noise completely freaked her out. She is not too bad in the house but not when we are out. She just turns and makes a very fast return to the house dragging me along!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thankfully I will be here for the 5th and the cumbernauld firework show but I`m a bit concerned about hogmany as I am working over the bells, I`m hoping to get a dogg sitter!!! _________________ My life belongs to a Collie |

Cuthbert is usually fine with loud noises and fireworks. As John says don't react as if it's anything unusual. When Cuthbert first heard a firework go off he looked at me and I just continued our walk as if nothing had happened and he seemed to accept it from then on in.
