Hi my name is Elaine and my german shepherd pup is 5 months old and is called Kadey. We joined training on Sunday and it didn't go too well, we spent most of the time in the cupboard. We will keep trying and hopefully will have more luck next week, anyway just wanted to say hello to everyone. Elaine |

Hi
We are Alice & Susan and have a 16 month old Staffy called Tia, we have been going to class since Tia was 12 weeks and have most of our fun in at the entrance mixing with the other dogs, it all takes time ......Kadey will get there it just takes practice and patience . _________________ Alice & Susan & Princess Tia

hey welcome, she did calm down, maybe she had just never been in an indoor environment with lots of dogs.
she will be fine, you did the best thing by just letting her get used to the situation. _________________ microchiping and grooming www.chipnclip.co.uk

Hey! John is right our Dexter was awful at first! His first class he had a lie down protest and it took a good few lessons til he would comply! With a lot of perseverance Dexter is a lot better and is becoming a brilliant dog! The pictures from the group walk show how happy he is and he interacts well, generally, with other dogs. Kadey will too, John'll tell you how we were at the end of our tether with Dexter and how I thought he was actually possessed! It gets better. Cat |

Hi Elaine
I also have a young GSD (Carrie, 14 months), and had forgotten just how long it takes and how much work is involved in the training process! We have only had her 2 weeks, but I am already exhausted, and each day seems to bring a new challenge! Having said that, with advice from John, last week's problem (mouthing) is now loads better, although has now been replaced with lunging towards children and babies (nightmare!). Trying to take it one day at a time though...
We started training classes 2 weeks ago, so still very early days and we have so much to learn. I feel it's two steps forward one step back at the moment, but it's encouraging to hear that other people's dogs have also taken time to settle, and that it's all come good in the end. And this forum is really great for sharing your issues, and realising that you're not alone with any problems or worries you may have.
Hope we will maybe get to meet you and Kadey some time! I agree with Alice and Susan - the "meet and greet" before the class starts is a definite highlight, and really helpful for socialising. Loads of gorgeous dogs, and owners who understand any issues you might be having.

Hi Jane and carrie, last week was our second week and was a lot better than the first. She didn't sit in the cupboard like she did the first week but she didn't really calm down till the end of the class. She wasn't interested in me or treats at all to busy sniffing and trying to find a door to open, but I hope this week she might pay attention. Hope you and carrie are doing well and I hope to see you both.

Hi Elaine,
I also have a German Shepherd, Cleo. She is 14 months old and nervous at class too (and everywhere else). My way of dealing with Cleo's nervousness is to try and give her as many positive experiences as I can in places she is normally nervous. Hopefully she will eventually realise that nothing bad is going to happen in those places and be a bit more comfortable. She improves a wee bit each class. I'm sure Kadey will too.
