Mouthing

I took a ball on a rope out on my morning walk with Carrie this morning, to try to do some training with it.

Seemed like a good idea to not be over-reliant on treats, and this kind of toy worked really well with my last dog, but she was SO excited by the ball that she started either jumping up to get it off me or, worse, mouthing my wrist or ankle.

Any thoughts/advice?! With a dog as new as Carrie (she only came to live with us about 10 days ago), this kind of behaviour can be a bit alarming, as we still don't know her that well and, although there is a bond developing, it's still very early days, and she is most definitely testing the boundaries just now.

She's a really good girl about 55% of the time, but it's hard not to be demoralised by the other 45% of a walk or training session. I'd forgotten how hard the early days can be...!

Hi,

sounds just like this is excitement.....not aggression.

The important thing here is not to reward the behviour you dislike........give her NO attention and remove the ball on a string until she is calm and behaving.
