Every day when the postman comes, Diesel has a field day barking and when the mail comes through the letterbox, he pulls it out of the posties hand and throws it all over the floor............ with the mail left torn and soggy! Confused Murphy however, doesn't bother.
My neighbour's dog is exactly the same, so much so that's she's resorted to putting a postbox out on her driveway so the postie doesn't come to the door!!!!!
But anyone else coming to the door, gets an inquisitive bark then he stops, but that's it. No continued heavy panting and growling or leaping about like a maniac. That's purely reserved for the postie.

We've had theories on this and one being that dogs do this because the postie never comes in and always leaves immediately ........... therefore the dog thinks he's successfully chased him away! So he does it every time he comes to the door.

But as of today, I'm going to try and get him out of that habit once and for all, as it drives me mad and the postie thinks I have a demon dog. Shocked So I'm sitting here at the window watching for the imminent arrival of todays mail, Diesel will have a collar and long lead on ............... when the mail reaches the door and Diesel has a go ............ he will get a correction that he won't forget in a hurry. Hopefully within a few days of this he'll get the message that this is no longer acceptable.

Does anyone else have to put up with anything similar?

Marcella

Shirl, he's a pest. The postie must think he's maniac ...................... he does have his moments does Diesel (as you know!) but there's no malice in him, it's all play. But to those not used to GSD's or other big breeds ............. it doesn't look like fun, it looks like they want to kill! Laughing

yeah but you first reaction when a dog barks is to back away till you work out what it means.

but some people take it to far , there were two teenage girls when i took my two out and they started screaming because my two started barking and bouncing wanting to play.

it was ridiculous we were no where near them. Rolling Eyes

hi Marcella

ask John to try out his Cesar Millan out on Diesel - you could get someone to post empty envelopes through the door and
teach him to leave, if he doesn't then you will have to give him a correction

it's worth either a try or a laugh Very Happy
