Ok I am stumped with this, been trying to get Kiera to recognize her name but no no avail
week 1 we tried using a treat method nope wasn't working
week 2 using toy
using lots of praise etc when she does come to us or look at us but still no real joy
where are we going wrong? |

Margaret sometimes it can take a little while for a dog to realise that the name you have given it actually relates to the dog..in the wild they have no names!
i would persevere but really go over the top to get her attention when you say her name, you have a good name for this.........Keeeeeeraaaaaa in a really exited happy voice..with a little time it will start to get a reaction.
I hope this made some sense! _________________ John Thomson

It won't take long. Keep using her name every time you address her .......... be upbeat when you say her name too, give her good vibes when she hears it. |

Ash has only started responding properly to his name the last two weeks. Before it was simply the tone...I could have swore at him and as long as the 'tone' was right he would have come
I have actualy tried it
Give her time hun! |

Soon she'll respond to Sheila's name too, if she's anything like my 2! If food is on offer, they'll answer to anything at all!! _________________ "My little dog - a heartbeat at my feet" - Edith Wharton |

Its strange actually having a dog that can hear, Sheila responds to a look and hand signals, most of the fosters we had weren't with us long enough to do any training. aghh the joys of having a hearing dog, nothing is secret anymore. will keep trying with the name, think I will take a good look to see wether she is responding more to the hand signals and eye contact, might be an idea to check that and add in the commands that way. hmm maybe. why is it I found it easier to train a deaf dog |
