Just got the insurance papers through for wee Millie and noticed that my excess is £70 (expected) but as well as having to pay this up front in the event of a claim, they also want 10% of the remainder!
10% of a couple of hundred wouldnt hurt too much but having had bills for Hektor in the past for over £3000 I wouldnt like to be having to shell out £300+ if something dreadful happens, thats the whole point of having the insurance. I just went with the same company as Hektors policy to get the multiple pet discount but i am thinking of cancelling and going elsewhere now.
Is this a new thing that Insurance companies have brought in, I'm sure Heks policy doesnt say that?

I'm with More Than too and this actually sounds familiar, but I'll need to double check the docs. _________________ Steve Young

yep i am with more than and this is the way their policies work they defend it by saying it keeps costs low????????
and yes it does go up annually again they say this is due to the increase risk due to the dogs age and breed???????
most of the insurance companies will have an annual increase |

Just checked Hektors policy and his does not mention anything about 10% of the cost to be paid after excess has been deducted. Not until he gets to 9 years old anyway..
Am going to investigate further!

I am with Direct Line - Lifetime cover - up to £6000 per illness. £80 excess for each illness - no additional percentage. It costs £70 per month for 2 Great Danes. No problems in them paying up. They have previously paid out £4000+ for 1 illness for 1 dog direct to Vet hospital. _________________ Regards,

we're having a hell of a time just now with the horse insurance - We had to take TJ into the Vet School at 3am a few weeks back and he stayed there for 3 or 4 days under 24hour care...
as you can imagine, that wasnt cheap, but Insurance company playing silly buggers and delaying payment etc where we have already had to pay call out vet and vet school
Ive noticed they are getting alot more strict now than they used to be for all types of insurances! _________________ want to see the animals in my life?

Giles is insured with the Kennel Club and the cats with HSBC.
TJ (Horse) is insured with petplan and has been so for the last 15 years!!!! Never, ever had the need to put in a claim until now and only now experiencing some problems and delays. To be honest I am really surprised as they are meant to have an excellent reputation but my vet is on the case so should see a quicker turnaround javascript:emoticon('') _________________ want to see the animals in my life?
